The Street Coaching for Pedestrians and Cyclists on University Campuses project aims to address pedestrian and bicyclist safety through an outreach and educational campaign for all road users. The goal is to increase awareness of pedestrian and bicyclist vulnerability, educate individuals on traffic laws, and motivate all users to replace reckless behaviors with safe behaviors. The project began in 2020, and each year a new university campus is selected to focus project resources. The following universities received resources as part of this grant from 2020-2024: Texas A&M University (2020-2021), University of Texas at Austin (2021-2022), the University of Texas at San Antonio (2022-2023), and Texas Southern University (2023-2024).
The Texas A&M Transportation Institute in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation has developed a set of fundamental resources that speak to the issue of vulnerable road user safety on university campuses. Resources are unique for each university community, but with limited effort, the resources can be modified to fit any university campus.
