BAC/Toxicology Reporting

The Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI), in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), provides information for Medical Examiners (MEs) and Justices of the Peace (JPs). In motor vehicle crash fatalities, MEs and JPs, acting as death investigators, are authorized to investigate to determine if alcohol and or drugs contributed to the crash. If the JP orders a BAC toxicology test to be conducted on a driver involved in a motor vehicle crash fatality, the coroner must report the results to the TxDOT Crash Records Section. The team can help MEs and JPs with topics such as the laws related to reporting toxicology results, the duty to report toxicology results, ways TxDOT will accept toxicology results, and where to send toxicology results.
