BAC/Toxicology Reporting for Justices of the Peace and Medical Examiners
The Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI), in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), conducts trainings for Medical Examiners (MEs) and Justices of the Peace (JPs). In motor vehicle crash fatalities, MEs and JPs, acting as death investigators, are authorized to investigate to determine if alcohol and or drugs contributed to the crash. If the JP orders a BAC toxicology test to be conducted on a driver involved in a motor vehicle crash fatality, the coroner must report the results to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Crash Records Section. Topics such as the laws related to reporting toxicology results, the duty to report toxicology results, ways TxDOT will accept toxicology results, and where to send toxicology results are some of the topics discussed in the trainings.

Prosecutors Crash Reconstruction Training
In conjunction with the TxDOT, TTI conducts trainings for prosecutors around the state of Texas to help them know what information to look for at a scene of a crash, to understand crash scene evidence collected by law enforcement, and how to present that evidence to a jury.

CRASH Training for Law Enforcement Officers
TTI currently assists TxDOT by training law enforcement officers across the state on TxDOT’s electronic crash report submission website known as Crash Reporting and Analysis for Safer Highways or CRASH. This training includes a 2-hour configure course for agency administrators and a 4-hour TCOLE credit user course for officers. TTI trainers have helped train over 100 law enforcement agencies since 2012 on CRASH.
